Sifu George Brown

Sifu George started his life in Martial Arts when he was eight years old. He trained at Grand Master John H. Dinkins School of Martial Arts in Brooklyn, NY. John Dinkins is a 10th degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do. Although George only trained at this school for two years, it was very influential in instilling discipline, flexibility and a passion for the Martial Arts.

When Sifu George was 10 years old, he and his family moved to Long Island. He soon started training at Waseda Judo Club which was located in Baldwin, NY at that time. His head instructor was Sensei Hiroyuki Yamashita, 8th Dan. Training in Judo was very influential in developing his physical and mental balance, reflexes and instinct. His understanding of using an opponent’s energy against them was developed while training at Waseda.

When Sifu George was 18 years old, he came to Albany for college. While he was in school he trained sporadically with the SUNY Albany MMA club. He also trained at Cohoes Judo under Jason Cryan, 5th Dan.

Sifu George joined Albany Jeet Kune Do (AFMA previous name) in 2005 under Sifu Stephen Bugler. Sifu George was looking for a Martial Art that focused on multiple ranges and flowed between them effectively, allowing him to utilize techniques from various styles with focus on core concepts such as efficiency, simplicity and directness was very important to him.

Sifu George acquired his Black Sash and the title of Sifu in Jeet Kune Do in March 2015 and is a Level Three in Kali under Sifu Raffi Derderian.
